Dr Shalini Sharma M.Phil, Ph.D. F.B.S. Principal, Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology believes in generating a collective educational vision for the department in such a way that motivates the faculty and students for making the department a centre of excellence in all learning areas. Her aim is to harness the latent talent of students and channelize their potential for all around development in academics and a range of co-curricular activities. Her keen eye on discipline and equally warm nature has helped in developing a cordial relationship with the students. She has a meritorious academic journey. She was awarded with Sri Gyan Prakash Mittal Scholarship during her graduation and Prof. V. Puri Gold medal for securing first position in Post Graduation. She had qualified NET for Lectureship as well as NET-JRF (CSIR). Her

Ph. D. work was based on Plant Physiology as well as Tissue culture aspect of some Medicinal Plants. She was awarded University Ph.D. Scholarship too. She has a number of research publications in various referred national as well as International Journals and around 30 students have completed their research projects under her guidance. She has presented her research in a number of Conferences with Best Paper Award as well as Best poster Award of Certificate of Merit.

She is a Fellow of Indian Botanical Society and also a member of Plant Conservation Society. Having a scientific bent of mind, she aims to promote research oriented activities in faculties and students as well. Department is regularly releasing practical books for students to enhance their laboratory skills. Students associated with her have brought laurels to the Department by enrolling themselves in best research institutions as well as Universities viz., DRDO, FRI and JNU etc. Students are securing placements in government and top notch private organizations. Recently an alumnus of Department Ms Udita Pushpad secured national rank One in All India Competitive examinations (AICE) JRF/SRF (PhD) 2020 conducted by Indian Council of Agriculture Research and stood fourth in Uttar Pradesh combined Agriculture and Technology Test 2020.

She stresses that Department has focused on increasing employability skills of students by providing hands on trainings or workshops in last few years that is the need of hour. Students are encouraged for entrepreneurship by providing proper exposure of relevant areas and some students have come forward to begin it. Last year students of Department also got selected for SITARE scheme of DBT Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council. For better understanding of subject Academic visits to various research labs of different Institutes, Universities and Industries are regularly arranged to bridge the gap. With her initiatives Institute has functional Memorandum of Understanding with two ICAR institutes where students can visit for trainings, workshops, projects as well as different Conferences.

 Career counselling sessions are regularly arranged to guide students’ successful journey ahead at national as well as International level. With her rich experience and multifaceted personality she is renewing and expanding horizons attempting to be relevant to the changing situations of the times.
